March 2021 MHSN Walk Down Memory Lane # 7
March was celebrated as “March Storm” while we were at MHSN. In first year we raised money for Muscular Dystrophy by participating in a Rock-a-Thon, doing bottle drives, and hosting a “hire a student nurse day”. In second year we raised money for Rheumatoid Arthritis by hosting a Nursing Ball. Long before Grey’s Anatomy had the fictional “Dr. McDreamy”, otherwise known as Dr. Derek Shepherd; MHSN had our own very real “Dr. McDreamy “, Dr. Bob Dysart. Gail Blair Storr still has the envelope that contained the cheque Dr. Dysart sent in support of the Nursing Ball (photo attached).
Unfortunately, we have no record of whether we raised money for similar causes in our third year. Was our collective energy too dispersed because we lived in apartments, not in residence, or have our memories simply grown too dim? We have now posted 3rd Year Memorabilia with pictures from other aspects of third year and invite you to examine them on our website http://mhsn1972.com. We’ve also added a few new pictures to First Year Memories. Check out Miss Gautreau and Miss MacDonald at the cottage and Miss Gautreau and Miss Warman in “jail”!
Finally, to take us back to the spirit of the fun we had as students giving back to the community, we are suggesting we celebrate a March Pandemic Mask Madness Event this year. Please send us a picture of yourself wearing a mask. For each picture we receive by March 31, 2021 a volunteer has committed to donating $5.00 that will go toward supporting Moncton’s Humanity Project https://thehumanityproject.ca. If everyone sends a picture, that would mean $285.00 to this worthy endeavour. So send those masked pictures to storr@unb.ca to support the less fortunate during the pandemic! We’ll update you in April how much money we actually raised.
