SEPTEMBER 8-10, 2023

School of Nursing Motto

“All that we give unto the lives of others comes back into our own”

From September 8-10, 2023 we celebrated an all class reunion with graduates from the Moncton Hospital Training School and the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing. What a fun filled week-end it was meeting up with classmates and alumnae from the years 1946-1975!

Our Class Pictures

The All Class Reunion Committee Alumnae decided that since the Alumnae had not had the opportunity to celebrate 50th reunions with four classes (1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973) those classes would have class photos taken by Ron Ward the Reunion photographer. Once the formal picture was taken he told us to “let loose” and as you can see from the second picture we certainly did that!

The Archives Room

As noted in our program the Archives Room was “chock full of interesting and historic items … MHTS/MHSN student uniforms, caps and capes, nursing textbooks, syringe and needle kits and a Nurses Bag with the original equipment used by Margaret Freeze, Class of 1930, while practicing as a Community Health Nurse in the Doaktown area of New Brunswick in the 1930’s …. ” Our classmates captured some of the items in this room in pictures.

Friday Night Welcome Reception

Music, flowers and lots of opportunity for chats with classmates and those from other classes.

Saturday Events

Several of our classmates attended a virtual tour of the old Moncton Hospital and had our picture taken with the oldest alumnae member present Phyllis Hicks who graduated from that MHTS in 1946. Phyllis told some engaging stories of her time as a student nurse including how students made their own plaster of Paris, sharpened needles etc. Unfortunately we didn’t catch the name of the other alumnae member.

Saturday afternoon we were one of the four classes having 50 celebration pictures taken and some of the pictures are from before that event.  Our class had designated tables and had a fun time. Jo Logan gave an update on our class and we sang one verse of our graduation song.

The table decorations were innovative using old nursing textbooks as well as teacups and saucers that according to our program “graced the tables at Alumnae events and special occasions for many, many years. And, the books on which the teacups and saucers are placed are actual nursing textbooks that were used by our grads as student nurses during the three years of study towards obtaining their nursing diploma and eventual RN designation”.

In addition to photos from our class you’ll see some photos of members of the class of 1965, 1971, and 1973. Cathy MacDonald McJanet was able to celebrate the All Class Reunion with her sister Janice MacDonald Ellis from the Class of 1974.

Sunday Events

Sunday began with a church service filled with approximately 300 alumnae. Reverend Pat Ritchie (Class of 1969) led the service and several of our classmates did readings (Marlene Myers Hill, Judy Horsman Coates, Gail Blair Storr and Joanne Logan Simpson). Lynda Wheaton Leclerc lit a candle for our deceased classmates. Music was led by Dr. James Coghlin. Claire Hachey and Carolyn Montgomery Corey (Class of 1971) and a choir consisting of several alumnae led us in various vocal selections.

Following the church service there. was a ‘Til we Meet Again reception. Our class received yellow roses and Nancy McArdle Martinez cut our 50th celebration cake.
