Letter From Big Sister Transcribed from Original Handwritten Letter
Dear …
I really don’t know how to start this letter but I am what we call your “big sister” during your training. As my “little sister” you need not be afraid to come to me with any problems you encounter.
On the 15th of Sept. when you come in, as I am working til 3:30, I will arrange for someone to meet you at the door and show you around the place and your room. At this time you get to meet Mrs. Wright (whom you probably have not) and the instructors. There is a tea in the sudatorium for you and your parents and on this day your father also will be able to see your room & the residence (men are not allowed beyond the lounge). That evening there will be a sing song with the 2nd and 3rd years where you will get to know a few classmates & some of us.
The next week there will be a nite set aside for an initiation, don’t believe what anyone tries to tell you. It’s not all that bad and everyone so far has survived (hope I haven’t scared you already.)
The next day you will start classes at 8 o’clock. You won’t be working on the floors until the end of October.
As far as what clothes you bring a hint might be – the kids usually wear slacks and shorts around residence as well as outside. You will need dresses for class as uniform are worn to work in the hosp.
And bring along any stuffed animals you might have as everyone’s room is full of them and you won’t be considered crazy if you bring them.
Well I guess that’s about all I can think of at this time, don’t be scared to ask any questions you might have. See you September 15th.
Your “big sister”
