Jo Logan Simpson Remarks at All Class Reunion
Fellow Alumnae & Guests: Greetings from the Class of “72!
We’ve had a great weekend!! Haven’t we????
For many years we’ve heard you, our Alumnae, share your class friendships, accomplishments, joys and yes, losses. Our story is not so very different. We too have come to realize that those 3 intense years together created a bond of caring far greater than ever imagined. And it’s not just for each other but for you, our alumnae: for The Moncton Hospital, ’our classroom: and always for, our patients, our purpose.
So what have we been doing for 50 years, …Well… We’ve practiced right across Canada except Nfld and “true North”, in the United States, Mexico, England, Scotland, Europe, Saudi Arabia to name most.
And then our Nursing experience is equally as broad: Maternal and Child Health, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Ortho, Oncology, Rehab, Critical Care, Urology, Gerontology (near and dear to our hearts), Occupational Health, Palliative Care, and some of this was done while serving the Canadian Military.
We’ve stepped away from the bedside to nurse in Extramural, Public Health, Correctional Services, & in Medical offices and of late: vaccinating for Covid!!!
We’ve lent skills to newer programs such as Parish Nursing, Lactation Specialty, Memory Disorder, Infection Control, Telemedicine, Clinical Research,
And still others devoted themselves to developing future nurses: They are Instructors. Professors. Deans.
Amidst this we’ve been nationally recognized for contributions to the Operating Room Nurses’ Association, to Emergency Care, to Stroke Care, and to Nursing Program Accreditation
And finally, we’ve ventured beyond nursing to become practicing physicians, to do Refugee Resettlement, hotel management, and to teach English as second language.
And you know, regardless of where we’ve been, to paraphrase Florence Nightengale: we’ve always tried to place into the lives of others all that was placed into our own. This, then, is our legacy.
So ,in conclusion and with a grateful heart to reunion organizers, to our MC and to you for letting us share our 50 years, we leave a sincere message: It’s the chorus of our graduation song. Sing along if you know it.
Joanne Belliveau- hit it!
Friends we will remember you, think of you, pray for you
And when another day is through, we’ll still be friends with you.
Up a notch:
